The rematch of last year’s NBA Final ended with the Warriors defeating the Celtics (123-107) in San Francisco. Just three players scored points off the bench for the winners.

One of them was Jonathan Kuminga who scored 14 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 3 assists in 21 minutes of play. He was Golden State’s fourth top scorer.

But his impact was most important on the defensive as there were a number of weapons that Boston threw at the Warriors. Dubs’ head coach Steve Kerr praised the 20-year-old forward for his work on the defensive end.

“I thought JK was great,” he said on the postgame podium. “Just his athleticism and size and strength, to be able to bring him off the bench and put him on either Brown or Tatum, and then the way he can switch and stay in front of people whether it’s those two I just mentioned or Marcus Smart or Brogdon, the guys who are attacking. JK has really helped solidify our defense, and given us another weapon that we can put on the best players on the opponent.”

This season Kuminga is averaging 6.5 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist in 16.5 minutes per game.
