The NBA is rescinding the technical foul assessment against Jayson Tatum on Monday, as earlier reported by Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe.
The controversial call took place during the Boston Celtics’ home match against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Tatum fouled Aleksej Pokusevski in the early second period and proceeded to clap out of frustration, thus triggering a technical whistle from one of the officials.
“Anybody in the arena, anybody watching the game could’ve seen I was frustrated with myself,” Tatum told reporters. “I didn’t say anything, I didn’t look at him. So, after the game, you can just laugh it off when you see it.”
The invalidity made on the call now lowers Tatum’s total number of technicals this season to three. A player evaluated for 16 technical foul calls in a season automatically suspends for one game.
Amid the phantom call, Tatum still proceeded to splash 27 points and 10 boards to lead the Cs over OKC, 126-122.
