The NBA is contemplating creating an In Season tournament in 2023-2024 season modelled after cup tournaments that are commonly held in Europe.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is not fond of an idea of his players playing even more games during the season. If such tournament is launched, he expected the Mavs to rest their players.

“In terms of in season tournament, I’m not a fan,” Cuban said, per Landon Buford. “I can see the Mavs not participating at all or resting our best players. Until they give me one of those [The Larry O’Brien Trophy] the prize is the prize.”

According NBA insider Shams Charania, the teams will play Cup games through November with 8 teams advancing to single-elimination Final in December.

All of the games will be part of normal 82-game regular season, except for one extra game that will be played by the In Season Tournament finalists.
