With an NBA championship already shining in his basketball career résumé, Milwaukee Bucks big man Bobby Portis is shifting his gears for the better and now laser-focused to claim a coveted individual award this approaching 2022-2023 season.

Answering a question from a fan on Twitter last Wednesday, Portis declared that he is considering the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award trophy as his aspiration for next season.

Since his arrival in Milwaukee, Portis fully embraced the Sixth Man role behind superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and Brook Lopez. In the team’s title season in 2021-2022, he finished ninth in the award’s race, with Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson bagging the honors.

The fan-favorite is coming off a career year with the Bucks, averaging 14.6 points, 9.1 boards, 1.2 assists in 47.9 percent shooting, as he was placed to start at the center in 59 out of his 72 appearances due to the long absence of Brook Lopez (back surgery). These impressive numbers earned him a four-year contract worth $49 million this offseason to remain in the Cream City.

With that sweet shooting, outstanding rebounding tendencies, and energy that he injects amongst the Milwaukee faithful, there is no doubt that Portis has a solid shot to finally win it. His contribution will remain integral in the franchise’s ongoing hunt to win more championships down the road.
