FIBA secretary general Andreas Zagklis talked to Eurohoops about the upcoming Eurobasket:

The expected participation of so many top players is great news for our sport. I would say that the competitions of this summer are the first of the new cycle of our competition calendar and also the last of the adjusted COVID-19 calendar. The participation of the top players was not a concern. We knew from the previous decades that counting on all the players every summer was not something that could be reasonably expected. That was one of the reasoning behind the new calendar and we knew that we should have one summer dedicated to Eurobasket, one to the FIBA World Cup, one to the Olympics, and one to be free for the players to rest with just two windows.
