Most people claim that the 1980s was the best basketball era, given the star power, technical ability, rivalries, and everything else that the decade offered basketball fans. It was the whole package. But future generations will likely talk about the current basketball era as one of the best, too. There’s certainly enough top-quality players, players who will rightly be regarded as some of the greatest ever to play the game.

But who’s at the very top of that long list? In this blog, we’ll take a look at what we feel are the three best currently active NBA players.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

It’s been a steady rise to the top for the Greek Freak, otherwise known as Giannis Antetokounmpo. Two back-to-back MVP awards in 2019 and 2020 were followed by an NBA Championship with the Milwaukee Bucks — their first in fifty years — in 2021, during which he won Finals MVP. Could another ring be on the cards in 2022? Thanks to Giannis, the Bucks are overwhelming favorites in the NBA Betting Odds to win the Central Division, and they must be quietly confident of another finals appearance.

Kevin Durant

Is Kevin Durant the best player in the league? It’s hard to argue against it. Despite suffering a few niggling injuries in the past couple of seasons, Durant continues to perform at his highest level. He’s arguably better now than before he tore his Achilles, which is highly unusual. He’s made every team he plays for infinitely better, and now, at the Brooklyn Nets, he has a team that shows off the full range of his talents. And for what it’s worth, Giannis Antetokounmpo believes he’s the best in the world, too.

LeBron James

It would be wrong, sacrilegious even, to leave LeBron James off the list. It’s almost becoming ridiculous to leave him off a list of the top three NBA players of all time. While Michael Jordan still gets the nod by most fans, in the years to come, it’ll be “Jordan and James” as the two best. He’s not the player he was two years and beyond ago, but he’s still in the top three, despite being in the twilight of his career. It’ll be a sad day when an NBA season starts without James on a roster. For now, all we can do is sit back and enjoy the privilege of watching one of the world’s best athletes do his thing.
