The Los Angeles Lakers formed a big three by adding Russell Westbrook to the roster this offseason. The former NBA MVP joined the two superstars on the team, LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

James Worthy, who won three championships as a Laker, shared his thoughts on the addition of Westbrook and what it means for the team. According to him, the 32-year-old point guard is a great fit for the purple and gold and his presence will be appreciated especially by James.

“Russell Westbrook is a huge welcome to the Los Angeles Lakers,” Worthy said on Spectrum SportsNet. “We lost Schroder last year who was a decent point guard for us. What we’re gonna get with Russell is what LeBron’s been needing for some time. LeBron has always had to carry the load. He’s always had to be the guy with the ball in his hand. He’s been the most consistent, the one we only trust, especially down the stretch.

“But when Russell comes in it’s gonna help LeBron tremendously a veteran that’s been in the league long enough to know exactly where he is and what he needs to do to win a championship and to continue his success. Just breaking Oscar Robinson’s triple-double record. And a pretty savvy player. I mean, I was over elated when I thought we had a chance of getting him.

“Because he’s the perfect match for this team right now. A guy who can put pressure on you. His mentality is contagious. The way he plays every night, he doesn’t take a minute off. LeBron is gonna love that, AD is gonna learn from that, Rondo’s gonna love that type of efficiency and mentality.”
