The Miami Heat will avoid the NBA’s novel play-in tournament and head straight into the playoffs on the back of a 129-121 win over the Boston Celtics at the latter’s TD Gardens on Tuesday night.

The Heat ran out to a comfortable second-half lead over their Eastern Conference rivals despite losing Jimmy Butler for the entire period after the forward suffered an eye injury late in the second quarter.

Tyler Herro led things on the scoring front for Miami with 24 points, along with 11 rebounds and three assists on the night. Bam Adebayo and Duncan Robinson both scored 22 while Kendrick Nunn chipped in with 13.

The victory guarantees the Heat a trip to the playoffs this year. The Celtics, on the other hand, now face the play-in tournament.
