The addition of Andre Drummond to the Los Angeles Lakers roster ignited rumors that the team might buy out Marc Gasol’s contract as there are currently three centers on the roster with Montrezl Harrell. When asked directly about the speculations, head coach Frank Vogel said there were no talks about a buyout with Gasol.
Vogel also reiterated earlier comments that he needs all three centers for the coming playoff push. “All three of those guys got to recognize how important they are to our team.
We intend to use them and we intend to hopefully win a championship with all three of those guys. It’s not much more complicated than that.
“We have to keep everyone sharp, getting opportunities and when your number’s called in a certain matchup or if there’s injuries or whatever. Those guys got to stay ready. It’s my job to keep them ready. That’s going to be the plan going forward. And we’re going to need all three of them.”
This season, Gasol is averaging 19.8 minutes per game, Harrell – 25.3 minutes per game and Drummond – 28.9 minutes per game.
