This year, LeBron James and Steph Curry were on the same team during the All-Star Game for the first time in their careers. The two superstars teamed up on Team LeBron. Both players were excited about the opportunity to play together and spoke highly of each other.
ESPN’s NBA insider Brian Windhorst saw a deeper meaning in LeBron’s comments. According to him, the Los Angeles Lakers superstar used the opportunity to recruit Curry in case the three-time NBA champion becomes a free agent in summer.
“Steph is also eligible for the extension this summer,” Windhorst said on The Hoop Collective podcast. “I guess he would sign it. Right? I mean, I guess the Warriors are offering him a big extension and will sign it even though he just turned 33. I thought it was hilarious over All-Star Weekend LeBron praising Steph up and down. One side and down the other how much he loves his game, how much he respects him.
“I mean, LeBron has obviously put the full-court press on, not the full-court press but LeBron obviously has begun the recruiting of Steph in the event he wouldn’t extend, and that somehow he would become a free agent the Lakers could have a swing at him.”
Curry is currently in the last year of a five-year contract with the Golden State Warriors which is worth over $201 million. He is set to earn $45.78 million this season. It is Curry’s 12th year in the NBA. He’s been with the Dubs his whole career in the league.
