Ty Jerome says Isaiah Stewart protects his teammates

Memphis Grizzlies guard Ty Jerome has praised teammate Isaiah Stewart for the confidence and toughness he brings to the team, explaining that his presence allows other players to compete more freely.

Jerome believes Stewart plays an important role in establishing Memphis’ identity, particularly when it comes to physical play and standing up to opponents.

“He’s huge, man. He’s our leader by example. It’s like that kind of that piece everyone needs,” Jerome said.

The veteran guard compared Stewart’s impact on the Grizzlies to the role Draymond Green has played for the Golden State Warriors, emphasizing the importance of having a teammate who prevents opponents from intimidating the rest of the roster.

“For Golden State, it’s just that Draymond thing that we talked about. You keep every bit of that where, you’re not going to get punked.”

“And that’s half of basketball.”

According to Jerome, Stewart’s willingness to stand up for his teammates gives other Grizzlies players greater confidence during games, including when exchanging words with opponents.

Jerome explained that knowing Stewart will support his teammates allows them to express themselves without worrying about being intimidated.

“Credit to him too, like what he instilled on this team. The confidence. You know he’s behind you every night. Frees you up to talking sh*t and be real free out there.”
