Detroit Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff believes Duncan Robinson has developed into a more complete offensive player, pointing to his improved ability to attack the basket and create opportunities beyond three-point shooting.
Robinson has been one of Detroit’s most productive players early in the season, averaging 19 points through eight games while shooting 47.9% from beyond the arc.
Although the 32-year-old has long been recognized for his perimeter shooting, Bickerstaff believes his offensive contributions now extend well beyond that area.
“Because he shoots it the way that he does, a lot of people overreact to him,” Bickerstaff said.
“So now that gives him an opportunity to put the ball on the floor, get to the paint and draw contact, which is a great addition to his game. But you’ve seen it continue. He’s not just a one-dimensional shooter.
“He’s a complete offensive player because he can pass from there, he can finish from there, and obviously when you get to the paint, you’re more likely to draw fouls.”
Robinson’s ability to take advantage of aggressive defensive coverage has helped him increase his free throw attempts to four per game, a career high.
His improved versatility has also given Detroit another offensive option while center Jalen Duren remains sidelined.
