The Los Angeles Clippers superstar Kawhi Leonard will have an important decision to make at the end of this season. It will be the year to decide on his player option. The 29-year-old forward appears to have made up his mind already.
Leonard is currently under a three-year contract with the Clippers worth over $103 million. He is set to earn $34 this season. Should he exercise his player option, Kawhi would earn $36 million in 2021-2022 season.
However, it seems he will decline his player option as he revealed in a recent interview. At the same time, he clarified that it is not related with his future in LA, i.e. he could sign a new deal with the Clippers after declining his player option.
“I’m just focused on this season. Not saying I’m going anywhere else or staying here. The best decision is to decline player option, but that doesn’t mean I’m leaving or staying,” the two-time NBA champion said, per Tomer Azarly.
