Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle spoke about what newly acquired swingman Josh Richardson brings to the team.

“He’s a high-level defensive player, which is something that we needed,” Carlisle said. “We’ve been looking for a guy who can guard point guards and add scoring off the ball … He’s a guy from afar who I’ve always thought would be a great fit with Luka Doncic.”

Someone who can score off the ball and who is a solid defender is something that the Mavericks needed.

Last season with the Philadelphia 76ers, Richardson shot 33.3 percent off the catch and 47.1 percent when left “wide open” (no defender within six feet).

Richardson will play an important role for a Mavericks team that has high aspirations of being a contender in the Western Conference.
