The Dallas Mavericks have targeted Jan. 1 as the date that Kristaps Porzingis will be cleared for on-court activity, according to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

This means that Porzingis will be sidelined to start the 2020-2021 NBA season.

The 25-year-old star continues to recover from surgery to repair the meniscus in his right knee.

“We’re going to make sure that that’s 100 percent before we put him out there, so that’s going to be into the season before we are able to have him join us,” said Mavericks president of basketball operations Donnie Nelson.

Porzingis recently gave an update on his recovery, saying he was off crutches, walking normal, lifting weights and soon would be getting shots up.

He averaged 20.4 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 2.0 blocks per game in his first season with the Mavericks.
