Lawrence Frank joins the International Coach Clinic "Giovanni Papini"

  • PDF

It will be a NBA-taste weekend, the last one of June in Pesaro: Lawrence Frank, former head coach of Detroit Pistons, will join the International Coaches Clinic “Giovanni Papini”, along with Mike Dunlap, former head coach of Charlotte Bobcats, Holger Geschwinder, personal coach and mentor of Dallas Mavericks Dirk Nowitzki, and European fame National Croatian Team head coach Jasmin Repesa, Cimberio Varese's Frank Vitucci and Banco di Sardegna Sassari's Romeo Sacchetti. Once again the Clinic, organized by the Italian Basketball Federation and Giorgio Gandolfi – Sport Marketing, Events and Communication, will be the number one in Europe for the presence of these great lecturers, becoming more and more international, with the registration of coaches from Greece, Israel, Latvia, Slovenia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates and China.

FRANK, THE ENFANT PRODIGE – New York native, born in 1970 Frank grew up at Indiana University where he worked with Bobby Knight. After serving as assistant coach at Tennessee University, he became assistant coach of Brian Hill with Vancouver Grizzlies and then with the New Jersey Nets. In 2004 the Nets promoted him as head coach replacing Byron Scott, and he surprized the NBA achieving a 13-game winning streak which set a new NBA record for the most consecutive wins by a first time head coach. The streak was also the longest winning streak by any head coach in any of the four major professional sports. In 2010 he substituted Tom Thibodeau in the Boston Celtics' staff, then in 2011 became head coach of the Detroit Pistons where he coached the last two seasons.

THE PROGRAM – The lessons' program is finalized: after the registration from 10 to 13, on Friday 28th the former Pistons' coach will open the seminar with two lessons talking about pick & roll offense and pick & roll defense, along with Vitucci's lesson about early and secondary fastbreak. On Saturday there will be a full immersion of six lessons: two by Dunlap (1-1-3 match up zone and defensive transition) and two by Repesa (offensive moves of the centers after the picks and zone offense), another lesson by Frank (multiple offensive options for the same alignment) and the one by Holger Geschwindner named “Are we sure we teach the shooting?”. On Sunday morning the Clinic will end with Meo Sacchetti, who will talk about building an offense around a leader, Repesa (2- 3 zone defense) and Dunlap (perimeter players' improvement).

REGISTRATION DEADLINE – For logistic reasons due to the presence of others international events in Pesaro, the enrollment will be limited to a maximum of 350 participants.
