Worcester Wolves end 2013 top of the BBL table after a 102-72 win over basement side Birmingham Knights at the University of Worcester.

The Wolves led from tip to buzzer with Alex Owumi leading the way with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists, with double-doubles for Will Creekmore (16 points and 16 rebounds) and Zaire Taylor (10 points and 15 assists).

Brent Benson led the Knights with 18 points.

Leicester Riders kept up the pressure on Worcester at the top though with a hard fought 70-60 win at the Glasgow Rocks.

Jay Couisnard led the reigning BBL champions with 18 points but were dealt a blow when they lost Anthony Downing with a broken jaw. The rookie guard will miss the remainder of the season.

London Lions had a mixed weekend but they produced their performance of the season to down the Newcastle Eagles convincingly on Sunday afternoon at the Olympic Park 96-82.

With this win, the Lions close the gap on the top four and enter 2014 full of confidence following this win.

Playing in his 200th BBL game, Rod Brown led the Lions with 21 points as Newcastle’s main scoring threats had an off day with Scott Martin providing some resistance with 17 points for the Eagles.

Two days earlier, the Lions were victims of an 81-70 loss to the Sheffield Sharks in Yorkshire as the Sharks kept up their title hopes.

Mike Tuck led the Sharks with 19 points as the hosts blew the game open in the final quarter after they entered it all tied up at 51-51.

Plymouth Raiders comfortably saw off a light-handed Manchester Giants team 90-74.

Matt Pressey posted impressive numbers of 27 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the Raiders to victory.
