There was one late game in the Liga Endesa this week as Murcia played host to Cajasol Seville, but it little difference to the league standings as the usual Sunday fixture list saw a slight change at the top.

Unicaja Malaga sits third in the Liga Endesa table after a 74-67 win away to Barcelona in the game of the week.

Trailing 20-17 after the first quarter, Malaga stormed back to take a 43-37 lead at the break. Despite a late scare, the visitors held on to the advantage to claim an already important win this season.

Nik Caner-Medley led Unicaja with 12 points, while Juan Carlos Navarro had a game-high 20 points in vain for the Catalan side as they now drop to fourth.

A simple inbound pass from Oliver Lafayette to Justin Doellman resulted in a bucket with 1.6 seconds left and a 79-78 victory for Valencia away at Laboral Kutxa.

The win keeps Valencia second in the table as Rafael Martinez’s 16 points led the way. The league’s leading scorer Doellman added 12, but was kept relatively quiet until his final second heroics.

Laboral Kutxa drops to seventh in the table following this loss. Tibor Pleiss had 21 points for them.

Valencia, like all teams at the moment are trailing runaway leaders Real Madrid as they beat Canarias 85-74 in Tenerife to go to 9-0.

Gran Canaria got back to winning ways after an 83-77 overtime success away to Manresa.

The game though was highlighted by a simply stunning full court hail mary at the half-time buzzer from Vasilis Xanthopoulos, which went straight in. After careful review though, the home fans were disappointed when they disallowed the basket as it the ball left the Greek’s hand after the buzzer sounded.

Brad Newley led the winners with 19 points as they break Manresa’s two-game winning streak.

Bilbao are hoping that their poor start to the season can be put to rest as they thumped Estudiantes 72-55 in what was the biggest margin for victory in Spain this week.

Fran Pilepic led Bilbao with 15 points as they led 17-12 after one quarter of play and never looked back, forcing Estudiantes into 19 turnovers.

Joventut Badalona recorded a comfortable 79-72 win over Valladolid. John Shurna led the winners with 22 points as the Catalan side move to ninth while keeping Valladolid bottom with the one win this season.

In the late game on Monday, Murcia were 89-85 victors at home over Cajasol Seville.

Former Spanish international Berni Rodriguez sealed the win from the free throw line in the final seconds for Murcia. Kim Tillie had 17 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts.

The other games saw Zaragoza claim a 77-68 win over Fuenlabrada and Gipuzkoa 84-72 victors away to La Bruixa d’or.
