Caja Laboral reached an agreement with head coach Zan Tabak to work together for the remainder of the season, the club announced Monday night.

Tabak, age 42, arrives from Trefl Sopot, which he had joined this summer. He had joined Trefl from Sant Josep Girona of the Spanish second division, where he made his debut as a head coach following five years as an assistant between Real Madrid and Cajasol Sevilla, always working for current Zalgiris Kaunas boss Joan Plaza.

Tabak is among the most-crowned players in basketball history, having won three Euroleague titles with Jugoplastika Split between 1989 and 1991 and an NBA title with Houston in 1995. Tabak reached two Eurocup finals as an assistant coach. In 2007, Tabak lifted the Eurocup trophy with Real Madrid, and in 2011, finished second with Cajasol Sevilla. Tabak will make his Euroleague head coach debut against Zalgiris this week.

“Trefl Sopot was a big step for me in my coaching career but I received a proposal which some coaches don’t get in their entire lives,” Tabak said about the agreement. “I am grateful to the club and its management for understanding my situation and allow me to take advantage of his opportunity.”
