Italian playcaller Sergio Scariolo has been named the new head coach of Laboral Kutxa Vitoria, formally known as Caja Laboral.

The outgoing EA7 Milano coach will take over from Croatian Zan Tabak, who led the Liga Endesa outfit to the Euroleague quarter-finals where they lost against CSKA Moscow in four games.

Scariolo, 52 recently stepped down from his post as the national coach of Spain, after four years at the helm, where he led them to two Eurobasket gold medals in 2009 and 2011, and silver at the London Olympics last year. He was unable to steer Milano past the Euroleague’s regular season stage last year.

This marks a second spell in Vitoria for Scariolo, he previously joined the club in 1997, leading them to the Spanish League finals in 1998 and the Italian then won the Copa Del Rey in his next year.
