Former Turkish international and NBA forward Mehmet Okur has announced his retirement from all levels of basketball.

Constant injuries and lack of fitness have forced Okur to bring the curtain down on a 19 year career.

“I had number of offers from NBA and Euroleague clubs but it is time for retirement when your body does not allow you to perform,” Okur said.

Okur moved to the NBA from Efes Pilsen (now Anadolu Efes) after being traded by the Detroit Pistons in 2001. He was the first Turkish player to win an NBA championship with the Pistons in 2004.
