New Orleans Pelicans rookie sensation Zion Williamson is making a claim at the Rookie of the Year award with his performances. The 19-year-old forward is posting an impressive stat line with 23.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.

But, the fact that he made his debut late in the season makes his chances of winning the award slim. According to Chris Haynes, senior NBA insider for Yahoo Sports, the award cannot be given to Zion due to playing significantly less games than the favorite Ja Morant.

“I believe he has a shot at being in contention but you can’t give Zion Rookie of the Year after playing 37 games. That’s the most he can play the rest of the season. Ja Morant has been there from start to finish,” Haynes said.
