Pau Gasol will hold the ultimate honour of being Spain’s flag bearer during the opening ceremony of London 2012 Olympics.
As the Spanish Olympic committee officially confirmed today the Los Angeles Lakers center will be replacing Rafael Nadal, who had to withdraw from the Olympic Games due to poor physical condition.
Gasol is a good friend of Nadal and is one of the most recognisable Spanish athletes worldwide and has won numerous medals for and with the Spanish basketball national team.
The decision to appoint Pau Gasol as the new flag bearer was taken unanimously.
In 2008, Dirk Nowitzki was appoint German flag bearer during Beijing Olympics.
