Jerry West talked about Dallas Mavericks young star Luka Doncic. According to West, the 20-year-old will be the best player the Mavs have ever had.
That means that Doncic will be better than Dallas great Dirk Nowitzki. While West expressed great respect for Dirk, he concluded that Nowitzki is not Doncic.
Per Kevin Sherrington of The Dallas Morning News:
“One player has transformed them into a playoff team. He will be the best player Dallas has ever had. I have great respect for Nowitzki, but Dirk is not him.”
“I’ve been around a long time and I’ve seen a lot of special players. How many superstars are there in the league at any given time? Maybe five or six. There’s a difference between All-Stars and superstars,”Jerry West furthered. “A superstar is different, and that’s what he [Luka Doncic] is.”
In his second season in the NBA, Doncic is averaging 29.1 points, 9.6 rebounds and 8.9 assists per game.
