FIBA has issued the procedure for the 2020 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments Draw for both the men and the women, which will take place on Wednesday, November 27.

FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments Draw Procedure

16 teams have qualified to participate in the four FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in February 2020.

They have been divided into four pots of four teams each, based on the FIBA Women’s World Ranking, presented by Nike. The seeds for the upcoming tournaments were announced last week. 

All teams will be drawn and placed into one of the four assigned host cities of either Belgrade (Serbia), Bourges (France), Foshan (China) or Ostende (Belgium). 

The aim of the draw procedure is to have four groups of similar quality, with teams from the same continents or geographical regions equally distributed across the groups.

FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments Draw Procedure

Seven teams have directly qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games men’s tournament. They are Argentina, Australia, France, Iran, Nigeria, Spain and the United States of America, with Japan receiving automatic qualification as the hosts of the event. 

24 teams have qualified to participate in the men’s FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments in June 2020.

The teams have been distributed into six pots of four teams each, based on the FIBA Men’s World Ranking, presented by Nike.

The seeds for the upcoming tournaments were confirmed last week

The host cities for the men’s FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournaments are Belgrade (Serbia), Kaunas (Lithuania), Split (Croatia) and Victoria (Canada).   

Each tournament will host two groups of three teams, Group A and Group B. In order to balance the quality of the tournaments and their respective group’s Pots 1, 4 and 5 will feed Groups A and Pots 2, 3 and 6 will feed Groups B of each tournament.
