ImageKaspars Kambala received a 6.000 euros fine and got suspended for four international games by FIBA, due to an intentional post-game blow on Germany's Steffen Hamann as it was announced by the federation.

The game had just ended and even though the Latvians had won, Germany was advancing to the second round due to the 6-point margin, instead of an 8-point one that was needed for Latvia to advance.

Kambala reportedly elbowed Hamann who lost a tooth. Kambala practiced his fighting skills during his 2-year suspension of basketball on a doping case, when he competed as a professional boxer in Las Vegas. He is also known for frequently engaging into fights and provoking his opponents (video below from a friendly game against Lithuania, just before the Eurobasket 2009).
