According to Ian Begley, the Brooklyn Nets “highly unlikely” to re-sign a restricted free agent D’Angelo Russell if they acquire free-agent-to-be Kyrie Irving this summer.

“As of late this week, teams interested in pursuing Kyrie Irving remained under the impression that the Nets were the odds-on favorite to land the point guard, per sources. But no team interested in Irving, including the Knicks and Lakers, had been led to believe that they are out of the running to sign him, those sources say,” Begley reported.

Last season, Russell averaged 21.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game. Meanwhile, Irving – 23.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.9 assists and 1.3 steals.
