BBL ChampionshipAlong with many other teams in the BBL, the Worcester Wolves experienced mixed fortunes this weekend. After losing heavily 87-63 to the Newcastle Eagles, they snatched a 92-91 nail biting victory over the Marshall MK Lions on Saturday night.

In the process of ending their losing streak, the Wolves upset the winning record of the Lions, who had beaten the Worthing Thunder 100-85 on Friday. One of the leading lights for the Lions this weekend was Frank Holmes, who poured in an impressive double-double of 28 points and 15 rebounds against the Thunder on Friday. Although the American posted 15 points and 7 rebounds the following day against the Wolves, it was BBL veteran Yorick Williams who stole the headlines with 34 points on 7/10 three point shooting and 4/4 free throw shooting. Evaldas Zabas led the winning Wolves side with 30 points.

Saturday also saw a tense encounter between the Cheshire Jets and the Glasgow Rocks, as the Jets triumphed in overtime, 88-83. Whilst Rob Yanders turned it on in the dying moments to lead all scorers with 26 points, the Jets were led by big pair Colin O'Reilly and Shawn Myers, who had 20 points each, and Chez Marks finished with 19 points personal. The Rocks were able to bounce back on Sunday however, as the Atlantic trio of Yanders, Sapp and Copeland all bagged 21 points, to secure an 84-69 win north of the border against the Everton Tigers, thus winning the mid-table battle.

Back to this week's theme of mixed results and the Tigers can salvage something from this weekend, as they cruised past PAWS London Capital 84-60 on Friday evening. The Capital did however, have something to shout about, as they avenged the 85-80 BBL Cup loss to the Airwaves Plymouth Raiders, and got one over on their rivals in the 'basement battle' with an 84-77 victory at the Capital City Academy. The Raiders Terry Horton put in an excellent 36 point display to lead all scorers, whilst Lithuanian big man Giedrius Knysas led the Capital scoring with 22 points. The Capital finished off a sub-standard weekend for the Raiders, who also lost 78-90 at home to the Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders, who were led on the night by Molten BBL Player of the Month for October, Tack Minor, with 31 points.

Finally, first placed Sheffield Sharks continued to dominate the league this weekend as they fought through a double header with wins by convincing margins over the Guildford Heat on Friday (97-83) and the Essex Pirates on Saturday (57-74).
