Olympiacos has announced that a criminal complaint filed by Despina Giannakopoulou, daughter of Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos, against club vice president Giorgos Skindilias has been dismissed as unfounded.
The complaint originated from incidents surrounding Game 2 of the Greek league finals at the Peace and Friendship Stadium in June 2025.
According to Olympiacos, Skindilias was arrested and taken to a police station following the complaint, despite being in recovery from surgery at the time.
The club also stated that a separate case involving the conduct of Dimitris Giannakopoulos had been referred to the appropriate court.
In its official announcement, Olympiacos described the developments as confirmation of its position regarding the events.
“In June 2025, we all witnessed Dimitris Giannakopoulos’ inconceivable behavior during his visit to the Peace and Friendship Stadium for Game 2 of the playoff finals.
His hurried departure under escort was followed by the filing of spurious criminal complaints, with the perpetrators posing as victims. One such complaint was filed by his daughter, Despina Giannakopoulou, against Olympiacos BC vice president Giorgos Skindilias.

She even demanded that the expedited arrest procedure be followed, leading to his arrest and being taken to a police station while he was recovering from surgery.
We issued a statement at the time saying: ‘Neither Olympiacos BC nor its presidents threaten children with sexual acts or put them up to filing false criminal complaints.’ Vindication was not long in coming.
Despina Giannakopoulou’s complaint was deemed unfounded and definitively shelved. As for Dimitris Giannakopoulos’ actions, those have been referred to the competent court for judgment.
While others live on social media, seeking likes and followers, Olympiacos BC and its management prefer to turn to the impartial Greek justice system and await its judgment.”
