ImageIn what might be declared the first official step toward the 2009/10 NLB League, the draw for the upcoming season was held in Zagreb where 14 clubs participating in the regional competition got their first opponents for the new season.

The draw was the pick of the General Assembly meetings, which lasted two days with the first one held a day before in Ljubljana, where first gathered owners of the league. The competition will start on saturday, October 10, and he regular season will end on March 20, 2010. Defending champion Partizan Belgrade will play first game at home versus BC FMP.

The following points were also decided:

1. The financial report for the 2008/09 season was confirmed as the plan for the 2009/10. The previous season was evaluated as satisfying in terms of current financial events in the whole world. There are still some debts, the league has from the previous few seasons, but according to financial plans the financial situation will be totally resolved with the 2009/10 season and afterwards the league should officiate with the positive balance.

2. The 2008/09 competition received high marks in terms of sports results and organization of games during the season. A special emphasis was given to the referee commission led by Aleš Kamnikar, for which the 2008/09 season was the first one and as it was concluded its work gave some effective results in terms of even more objective refereeing.

3. The NLB League competition structure, the possible reduction to 12 clubs and the change in the league's ownership structure was discussed too but no conclusions were made since this point of the meeting will again be discussed in September, when another meeting of the General Assembly will be held. At that time propositions for the 2009/10 NLB League will be confirmed too.

4. ABA president Radovan Lorbek also presented the most important conclusions from the Euroleague's meeting in Barcelona and the new marking system, which will be included in the Euroleague by-laws and as such automatically summarized also in the NLB League propositions.
