Per La Sexta, former head coach and World Champion with Spain, Pepu Hernandez, is expected to run for mayor of Madrid.
Hernandez will represent the Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) and will compete against mayoress Manuela Carmena.
Hernandez led Spain to the gold medal in the 2006 World Cup as well as the silver one in the 2007 EuroBasket.
