The NBA is planning to establish a G-League franchise in Mexico City as soon as next season.
In a report, according to The New York Times’ Marc Stein, the addition of a G-League team will be the first time that the NBA has expanded to Mexico with a permanent franchise.
The NBA G-League currently has 26 franchises, and all 26 are affiliated with NBA organisations with the Washington Wizards’ G-League team starting next season.
It is not clear which organisation the Mexico City franchise would be affiliated with though or if its merely an experimental team. or if it would be affiliated at all at this point.
