Zvezdan Mitrovic has been announced as the new head coach of the Montenegrin national team, replacing Bogdan Tanjevic at the helm for the FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

Mitrovic is currently at the helm of French side Monaco that competes in both the Pro A and the Basketball Champions League.

The 47-year-old has been an assistant for Montenegro during Eurobasket 2013 under Luka Pvicevic and head coach for the U21 national team.

Meanwhile Tanjevic has been named the technical director of the Italian Basketball Federation.

Montenegro will face-off against Eurobasket champions Slovenia, bronze medalists Spain and Belarus in Group A of the first round of the World Cup Qualifiers, which begin in November.
