Lithuania moved to 2-0 in Group B at EuroBasket 2025 with a convincing 94-67 victory over Montenegro in Tampere.
Jonas Valanciunas hit a three-pointer early in the first quarter to reach 500 career EuroBasket points, adding another milestone to his international résumé. The veteran center finished with 19 points on 8-for-9 shooting along with five rebounds.
Rokas Jokubaitis took charge as Lithuania’s floor general, delivering a double-double of 21 points and 12 assists. The guard shot 56 percent from the field and orchestrated an offense that set a new tournament record with 35 assists in a single game.
Lithuania jumped out to a 26-15 lead after the opening quarter and extended the margin to 47-28 by halftime. Valanciunas’ efficient scoring, including three triples, powered the dominant first-half performance.
From there, the Baltic side never looked back. Their lead swelled to as many as 32 points, with contributions from Marek Blazevic and Arnas Velicka helping keep Montenegro at bay.
Nikola Vucevic provided the lone bright spot for Montenegro, recording 20 points and 10 rebounds. Despite his double-double, Montenegro struggled from beyond the arc, connecting on just 3-of-22 attempts.
Lithuania’s balanced attack saw 10 different players register points. Blazevic chipped in 10 points and six rebounds, while Velicka added 10 points and five assists off the bench.
With the win, Lithuania joins Germany at the top of Group B with matching 2-0 records. Montenegro, meanwhile, drops to 0-2 and faces an uphill battle to keep knockout stage hopes alive.
Lithuania will face Germany next in a clash that could decide the top seed in the group. Jokubaitis and Valanciunas’ early form suggests the 2003 champions are primed for another deep tournament run.
