Bayern snaps losing streak with win over ASVEL

Bayern snapped its four-game EuroLeague losing streak with a 99-95 road victory over ASVEL on Thursday, recovering from last week’s 30-point defeat.

Anton Gavel’s team improved to 3-7 after a hard-fought offensive battle at LDLC Arena. Austin Wiley led the visitors with 22 points, nine rebounds and three blocks, while Vladimir Lucic added 18 points and eight assists without committing a turnover.

Bayern received contributions throughout its rotation, with Justinian Jessup scoring 14 points. Rokas Jokubaitis and Johannes Thiemann added 13 points apiece, helping the visitors overcome ASVEL’s late push.

The contest remained close from the opening tip, with Bayern taking an early lead behind Lucic before ASVEL fought back. The second quarter featured 11 lead changes, and neither side managed to create separation before halftime, with the score tied at 45.

Bayern found its advantage inside after the break, using its efficient two-point shooting to build the first double-digit lead of the game. Jessup helped drive the run as the visitors took control in the third quarter, which they won 28-21.

ASVEL responded in the final period and regained the lead with four minutes remaining. The hosts scored 29 points in the fourth quarter, but Bayern stayed composed at the free-throw line to regain control.

Wiley converted crucial free throws before Lucic added two more to help seal the victory. Bayern finished 23-of-28 at the line, while ASVEL made 14 of 17 attempts.

ASVEL had three players score at least 11 points, led by Patty Mills with 22. Both Gach contributed 18 points, while Hugo Besson added 11, but the hosts dropped to 4-6.

The victory also marked Bayern’s third road win of the season. The German team has yet to win at home, going 0-4 at SAP Garden, and will now look to build momentum during two more road games.

Bayern visits Valencia on Thursday, November 12, while ASVEL hosts Besiktas on Friday, November 13.
