Kawhi Leonard has committed his future to the Toronto Raptors, agreeing to a new contract that could keep him with the franchise through the 2028-29 season.
Leonard and Toronto reached an agreement on a two-year, $115 million extension, according to his agent Harrison Gaines of SLASH Sports.
The deal also includes a player option for 2028-29, giving the two-time Finals MVP control over the final year.
The agreement follows months of communication between Leonard and the Raptors after the 35-year-old returned to Toronto in a trade in July.
Both sides remained engaged in discussions about their long-term partnership, with Leonard expecting to finish his NBA career with the organization.
Including the season already remaining on his contract, Leonard is now committed to Toronto for three years and $165 million.
The veteran forward also made financial concessions to help the Raptors manage their future payroll. Leonard agreed to an extension worth $11 million below the maximum amount available to him.
That was not his only sacrifice. Leonard previously waived a $7.45 million trade kicker to help facilitate his move from the Los Angeles Clippers back to Toronto.
Those decisions came as Leonard and the Raptors discussed maintaining flexibility while the salaries of the team’s younger players continue to rise.
With the extension completed, Toronto has secured Leonard beyond his initial reunion season while preserving additional financial room for future roster decisions.
