Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry was recently asked by 5 Clubs on Golf Channel host Gary Williams about what mattered most to him as a 15-year-old golfer/basketball player.

(via Golf Channel | 5 Clubs):

“I was on the basketball journey, but I was just in the interest of having fun, trying to get better, being around the right competition, the right kids. For me, having the balance of basketball and golf through high school, it stretched different sides of me. I thought I was gonna be able to walk-on at Davidson and play on the golf team until Coach [Bob] McKillop said, ‘Hey, no. Right after the tournament, we’re back in the gym the next week.’ So, just the idea of just exploring and challenging myself in different areas.

“Playing competitive golf at Charlotte Christian for three years challenged me in a way mentally, physically, put me out of my comfort zone, and I think that’s helped. So all those experiences as a kid, I was just able to have fun and I was blessed to be able to go to a golf course, be able to pay a green fee, have the equipment to play high school golf, all those things that should be accessible to everybody. So looking back, that 15-year-old me would have loved to be out here on the Underrated Golf Tour for sure. I wouldn’t have been good enough, though.”
