The NBA continues to evaluate potential expansion, with league owners receiving presentations this week regarding possible new franchises in Seattle and Las Vegas.

According to reports, the topic was discussed during the NBA’s Board of Governors meeting, although no formal vote was held.

Commissioner Adam Silver acknowledged that the process is still ongoing and said there is “a ways to go” before the league reaches a final decision.

However, he expects the expansion question to be resolved one way or the other before the end of the year.

If the NBA ultimately approves expansion, Silver indicated that any new franchise or franchises would be expected to begin play at the start of the 2028-29 season in the fall of 2028.
