The Utah Jazz continued reshaping their roster Friday by agreeing to a two-year, $12 million contract with veteran wing Josh Okogie, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. Charania reported that Okogie chose Utah over several other suitors.
The signing gives Utah another experienced perimeter defender as the franchise attempts to transition from a 22-60 season into a more competitive group built around Lauri Markkanen, Keyonte George and newly acquired Jaren Jackson Jr.
Okogie is coming off one of the most efficient shooting seasons of his eight-year NBA career. Playing 78 games for the Houston Rockets in 2025-26, he averaged 4.5 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.9 assists in 17.4 minutes while shooting 42.5% from the field and a career-best 38.5% from three-point range on 2.1 attempts per game. His .531 effective field-goal percentage was also the highest mark of his career.
Although his offensive role remained limited, Okogie continued to provide value as a defensive specialist capable of guarding multiple perimeter positions. Across 494 career games, including 199 starts, he has averaged 6.1 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 0.9 steals while appearing for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Phoenix Suns, Charlotte Hornets and Rockets.
The 27-year-old enters a Jazz rotation that already features several young wings. Brice Sensabaugh averaged 14.9 points while shooting 36.7% from three last season, rookie No. 2 overall pick Darryn Peterson is expected to play a major role immediately, and Ace Bailey contributed 13.8 points across 72 games during his rookie campaign. Okogie’s experience and defensive versatility should complement those more offensively oriented players.
Utah’s offseason has featured sweeping changes following another lottery finish. The Jazz traded former starting center Walker Kessler to the Los Angeles Lakers in a sign-and-trade that created additional flexibility, while continuing to build around Markkanen and George. Markkanen averaged a team-high 26.7 points in 42 games last season, while George broke out with 23.6 points, 6.1 assists and 37.1% shooting from three over 54 contests.
The frontcourt also looks significantly different entering 2026-27. Jackson Jr. joined the organization late last season, and the Jazz added Jaxson Hayes in free agency while retaining Kyle Filipowski and Svi Mykhailiuk on guaranteed contracts. Filipowski averaged 11.4 points and 7.2 rebounds in 77 games, while Mykhailiuk shot 40.8% from beyond the arc.
