After Washington selected AJ Dybantsa with the first pick, the Jazz used the No. 2 overall selection in the 2026 NBA Draft on Kansas guard Darryn Peterson.
Peterson entered the draft as one of the most highly regarded offensive prospects in the class.
The 6-foot-6 guard averaged 20.2 points per game at Kansas and was widely viewed as one of the best shot-creators available.
ESPN’s Jeremy Woo ranked him No. 1 on his draft board and described him as “the most gifted scorer” in the class.
Although injuries limited Peterson to 24 games during his lone college season, he impressed evaluators with his three-level scoring ability, athleticism, and defensive potential.
He has also expressed confidence in his ability to play point guard, despite being known primarily for his scoring.
Peterson joins a young Utah backcourt that already features Keyonte George, Ace Bailey, and Isaiah Collier.
His addition gives the Jazz another dynamic offensive weapon and strengthens a roster that could take a significant step forward next season alongside veterans Jaren Jackson Jr. and Lauri Markkanen.
