Fred VanVleet will remain with the Houston Rockets after exercising his $25 million player option for the 2026-27 season.

The veteran point guard missed the entire 2025-26 campaign while recovering from a torn ACL in his right knee, but he is expected to be fully healthy when Houston opens next season.

VanVleet previously declined his player option last offseason in order to restructure his contract, adding more years while reducing his salary cap figure for that season.

There was speculation he could follow a similar approach this summer, but he instead chose to opt into the final year of his current deal.

When healthy, VanVleet has been a key contributor for the Rockets, averaging 15.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, 6.9 assists, and 1.5 steals
