Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic has revealed how he became an investor in Italian basketball club BC Roma, explaining that he accepted the opportunity without hesitation.
Speaking to Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, Doncic discussed his interest in European basketball and his decision to become involved in team ownership.
The opportunity came through former Dallas Mavericks executive Donnie Nelson, who approached the Slovenian guard about investing in an Italian basketball organization.
“I said yes immediately,” Doncic revealed.
The investment group subsequently acquired Vanoli Cremona, relocated the club to the Italian capital and renamed it BC Roma, initially known as Roma SPQR.
Doncic has maintained close connections to European basketball despite becoming one of the NBA’s biggest stars.
Before entering the NBA, he played for Real Madrid and helped the Spanish club win the EuroLeague championship in 2018. He also won EuroBasket with Slovenia in 2017.
