Jose Alvarado is staying with the New York Knicks after agreeing to a new three-year contract worth more than $14 million.

The veteran guard declined his $4.5 million player option in order to finalize the new agreement, securing a longer-term deal after joining New York at last season’s trade deadline in a trade with the Pelicans.

Following the move, Alvarado settled into the backup point guard role behind Jalen Brunson and became an important contributor off the bench.

His defensive intensity and playmaking were especially valuable during the Knicks’ postseason run, including a key performance in their Game 4 comeback victory over the Spurs in the NBA Finals.

By re-signing Alvarado, New York retains one of its most reliable reserve guards as it looks to build on last season’s championship run.
