Anadolu Efes has added French guard Matthew Strazel, signing the playmaker to a 2+1 season agreement after four years with AS Monaco. The Turkish club announced the move on Friday, June 26, as it continues reshaping its roster after a difficult 2025-26 EuroLeague campaign.
Strazel spent the last four seasons in Monaco, winning multiple domestic and international titles while becoming an important part of the club’s backcourt rotation. In the 2025-26 EuroLeague season, he averaged 9.2 points, 3.9 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 24.3 minutes per game across 43 appearances.
The 23-year-old guard shot 42.9% from the field and connected on 36.0% of his three-point attempts, averaging 1.3 made threes per game on 3.5 attempts. He also converted 84.0% of his free throws, providing efficient scoring alongside his ball-handling responsibilities.
Strazel played a key supporting role on a Monaco team that finished eighth in the EuroLeague regular season with a 22-16 record. Monaco reached the playoffs but was eliminated by eventual champion Olympiacos in a 3-0 quarterfinal sweep after losing Games 1 and 2 by double-digit margins.
The move comes as Monaco prepares for a major transition. The club will compete in the EuroCup next season after losing its EuroLeague place to Besiktas, ending a run that saw Monaco establish itself as one of Europe’s top teams.
Efes enters the offseason looking for stability after finishing 19th in the 2025-26 EuroLeague standings with a 12-26 record. The club has already made several roster changes, parting ways with Nick Weiler-Babb, Vincent Poirier, Saben Lee, Rolands Smits and Cole Swider, while Shane Larkin is expected to leave for Istanbul rival Fenerbahce.
Strazel’s arrival addresses a need for another creator in the backcourt. Efes relied heavily on Larkin before injuries limited him to 12 EuroLeague games, where he averaged 15.3 points, 4.2 assists and shot 43.1% from three-point range. The team also received contributions from Jordan Loyd, Lee and Weiler-Babb, but the roster lacked consistency throughout the season.
