While Mikal Bridges has been vocal about maintaining focus in the NBA Finals, his biggest contribution may be coming on the defensive end of the floor.

According to Kristian Winfield of The New York Daily News, Bridges has played a crucial role in helping the Knicks earn two road victories in San Antonio.

His ability to shut down opposing scorers has been one of the defining factors of the series so far.

Bridges has been especially effective against two key San Antonio Spurs contributors.

Through the first two games, De’Aaron Fox has gone 0-for-4 from the field when defended by Bridges, while Stephon Castle has managed just 1-for-7 shooting in those matchups.

The veteran wing’s defensive intensity was matched by his emotional postgame comments following another hard-fought victory.

Although the Knicks held on to secure the win, Bridges made it clear that he believes there is still plenty of room for improvement.

“Just gut. Just fight,” Bridges said during an intense interview with MSG. “A lot of integrity, poise, staying together. We’re gonna fight to the end. They made a run.

“They’re a really good team, but we’re gonna fight to the end. I wish we had a better fourth quarter. They’re a really good team. They pushed it, but we’ve gotta be better.”
