Ja Morant spoke with reporters before Saturday’s game, marking his first public comments since suffering a UCL sprain in his left elbow on January 21.

As Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal detailed, the Grizzlies guard kept his answers brief but still weighed in on several major topics.

Morant reacted to last month’s unexpected trade that sent Jaren Jackson Jr. to Utah, describing the move as “difficult” and acknowledging the emotional toll of losing a key piece of Memphis’ recent playoff core.

“I wasn’t a fan of it,” he replied, “but it’s a business, so, like I told him, he’s been a pro for eight years now, so continue to be that.”

Speculation about Morant’s own future surfaced about two months ago when reports indicated Memphis was open to hearing trade proposals.

While no offer ultimately led to a deal, league observers expect the front office to revisit trade possibilities during the offseason.

Despite previous reports of tension with head coach Tuomas Iisalo, Morant made it clear he remains content with the organization and hopes to stay.

“Why can’t I be? I’ve been happy this whole time,” Memphis star said.

When asked directly if he expects to still be on the roster next season, Morant admitted uncertainty.

“I hope so,” the player said. “You would know more than me. The internet is right there. Everything you’re asking me has been on the internet.”
