Luka Doncic has made his ambitions with the Los Angeles Lakers clear, promising to pursue championships as he begins a new chapter with one of the NBA’s most successful franchises.
Doncic shared his thoughts in an essay included in TASCHEN’s newly published 528-page visual history of the Lakers.
The book features previously unpublished photographs and artwork alongside stories and essays from figures connected to the organization.
For Doncic, becoming a Laker was something he never expected, but his focus has quickly shifted toward adding another championship to the franchise’s history.
“Somehow, now I have landed in Los Angeles. I’m a Laker now. I’m not sure that I ever could have imagined being here and wearing the purple and gold. It’s a wonderful surprise and it feels amazing and now I desperately want what all Lakers want: To win it all,” Doncic was quoted as saying.
“I won’t rest until we win more championships.”
Doncic also recalled an early conversation with Jeanie Buss that helped him understand the expectations that come with representing the Lakers.
“On one of my first days as part of this incredible club… Jeanie Buss welcomed me into her office and showed me all the trophies that sit next to her desk, overlooking the practice court. She told me that now I will have the chance to write my own story as a Laker. That is what I plan to do.”
The Lakers star finished his message by emphasizing that he understands the championship expectations surrounding the organization and wants to create his own legacy in Los Angeles.
“I tend to let my game do most of the talking, but I want Lakers fans to know that I am ready, excited, and eager to deliver SO ready. This is a city that is used to winning and winning big. I am so honored and grateful that I get the chance now to write my own championship chapters.”
