Kelly Oubre Jr. tallied 31 points and 12 rebounds, Quentin Grimes 22, and VJ Edgecombe added 21 in his return to the lineup after missing three consecutive games with a lumbar contusion for the 76ers.
Philadelphia played without Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid, as Maxey will be sidelined for at least three weeks due to a tendon injury in the small finger of his right hand.
On the other hand, Ty Jerome led the Grizzlies with 26 points, but they lost five straight and 12 of 15.
Jerome hit a three-pointer with 9:34 remaining, putting Memphis ahead 115-107 before the 76ers took control.
The Grizzlies went without a point for 3 ½ minutes, and the Sixers scored 12 in a row to go in front 119-115 with 6:29 to play on Payne’s triple.
Dominick Barlow continued the momentum for Philadelphia after hitting a three-point play, making it 128-117 with 4:56 remaining.
Memphis showed frustration near the end as Jerome was ejected for receiving a pair of technical fouls with 1:18 remaining.
Both teams will play on Thursday: the Grizzlies host the Mavericks, while the 76ers at Detroit.
