Dallas Mavericks swingman Max Christie recently spoke with Mark Medina of EssentiallySports about several subjects surrounding his season and the team’s outlook.
Among the topics discussed were his absence from the three-point contest, his belief that Cooper Flagg deserves Rookie of the Year honors, and the influence Kyrie Irving has continued to have on the Mavericks even while sidelined for the entire season.
Christie noted that Irving’s leadership and presence around the team have still played a meaningful role behind the scenes.
In a separate interview with Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News, Christie reflected on his personal goals for the remainder of the season, emphasizing his desire to finish strong and elevate what has already been the most productive campaign of his career.
With only 26 games remaining, he is focused on building momentum and improving upon his early-season performance.
“I just want to play better for the last 26 games than I did for the first 51,” said Christie, who has averaged a career-high 13.3 points per game on .469/.427/.871 shooting.
“If you look at it from a statistical standpoint, if I could bump those (per-game) averages up a little bit, that would be successful for me. … I’ve been shooting it well from the two and the three, but I think if I’m willing to sacrifice a little bit of percentage for volume, I think that can be a good building block for me. Obviously, not going crazy but just looking to try and improve.”
