Postgame, Shaquille O’Neal reminded Towns that individual recognition comes from exceptional play. “You gotta play great to get the credit,” Shaq told the center, emphasizing his role in the Knicks’ success alongside Jalen Brunson. Brunson added 20 points and eight free throws, while OG Anunoby contributed 20 points and four steals, helping swing momentum in the final minutes.

New York’s comeback was fueled by defensive intensity and efficient shooting. The team forced 19 Houston turnovers and converted key baskets down the stretch, including Towns’ layup off the glass to cut the deficit to 99-97 with 3:32 remaining. Brunson tied the game at 103 with a mid-range jumper, then gave the Knicks the lead for good moments later.
Houston had built its largest lead of 18 points in the fourth quarter, powered by Jabari Smith Jr.’s 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting and Alperen Sengun’s 16 points and six assists. Amen Thompson added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, but the Rockets could not sustain their late-game performance under New York’s defensive pressure.
Towns acknowledged the team-first mentality in his response to Shaq. “They can talk about anybody as long as we get a ring, that’s the most important thing,” he said, highlighting his focus on winning over personal accolades. Landry Shamet provided 14 points off the bench, while Jose Alvarado added eight points and five steals, giving the Knicks energy and spacing during the critical fourth-quarter run. New York shot 49 percent overall and 88 percent from the line, maximizing efficiency despite being outrebounded 44-29.
The victory sets the Knicks up for a Sunday matchup against the Chicago Bulls as they continue their road swing, while the Rockets look to rebound Monday against the Utah Jazz.
